Strategies, tips and stories about backgammon.

Backgammon Through E-mail?

I have heard of many different venues by which one could play backgammon but to be honest, I was quite stumped by this one – play backgammon by e-mail! I told myself, give it a chance, so there I was reading up on it and trying to understand the writer’s arguments for the venue.

The idea is totally basic and simple, actually. Players communicate each of their moves to one another through e-mail. Nothing changes in regard to the way the game is played. In fact, one big plus for this type of play would be for those people who like to think on their moves real slowly. Sending your e-mail then waiting for your opponent’s e-mail to come through would take more time than if you were playing face to face or through an online gaming portal.

Another argument the author had for e-mail backgammon (as I’d like to dub it now) is that you have the chance to play with anyone in the world. On top of that, he says that even if you do not have a computer, you can use portals in libraries or Internet shops to play e-mail backgammon.

My comments: number one, you can play with anyone from anywhere in the world even through online gaming portals. Number two, you can play “real time” even without a computer as well. I think the only unique selling point of this idea is the fact that you have no time limits.
