Back To The Basics: More On Game Play
We stopped with the concept of hitting in the last post so let’s pick up where we left off. Remember that a player can place his checkers on the bar? This does not mean that the checkers will stay there all throughout the remainder of the game. In fact, a player can re-enter his checkers into the board. In fact, the player with checkers on the bar has to find an empty point wherein he re-enters the checker.
How does the game end? You have to bear off your checkers and you can do this if they are all in your home board area. In order to do this, you have to continue rolling your dice. You can take out the checker that corresponds to the number shown on the dice OR if the number you get is not big enough, you can move the checkers towards point 1.
Theses are only the basic moves. There are, in fact, many other moves. Which one you make at a specific moment depends largely on your strategy and the context of the game. Again, the end of the game comes when one player bears off all of the 15 checkers he or she had at the beginning of the game.
Bear in mind that it would be a good idea to master the basic rules of game play. These are the foundations of a whole new level of backgammon strategy. There are many other points that we can talk about – let’s do this in the next posts.
Now THIS is great gaming news! What do I do now?
