Before You Play Online

I have been writing about playing online in the past few posts. Backgammon purists may disagree with me, but I really do think that the Internet is a blessing for those who want to play backgammon more often and in a more convenient manner. Anyhow, if you have not yet tried backgammon online, I would like to help prepare you for that. Before you go online to play backgammon, here are some things that you should take a look into.
Board set up is done by the computer. This means that you can actually start playing without knowing much about the game. However, if you are even remotely serious in playing backgammon, I suggest that you master the basics – including the board set up. Even if you are playing online and you do not have to do this, it does not mean that you do not have to KNOW how to set up the board.
Specific game play details. There are many variations of backgammon. More often than not, however, you can find out through the web site what kind of backgammon they are offering. You can also read the rules and FAQs before you start playing. It would be best to really understand these things before you play.
Internet connection speeds and other requirements. Aside from the game play specifics, you should find out what you need in terms of technological requirements. You wouldn’t want to get frustrated if you do not have the right Internet speed and only keep getting disconnected in the middle of a game.
Now THIS is great gaming news! What do I do now?
